On Monday when I took Satchel to school, I said, “Do you want to ask Miles if he wants to come skating this weekend?”
“Oh, yeah!” he said excitedly.
I thought it might be a nice idea since both of his cousins had brought friends last weekend. Miles is Satchel’s very best friend at school and I know doing something outside of school would be extra exciting for them.
Miles was already at school when we got there. Satchel immediately went up to him and asked, “Do you want to come skating with me?”
He looked a little confused and said, “I don’t know how to skate.”
“That’s okay,” I said. “We’ll teach you.”
Then he looked at Satchel and said, “But I’m scared to go skating.”
Before I could interject with some Mommy reassurance, Satchel said, “Don’t be scared. I’ll hold your hand.”
It was so cute I almost died. I mean, wouldn’t it be nice if they still talked this way when they were thirty? (Okay, maybe that would be a little too much!)
“I’ll talk to your mommy and daddy,” I told Miles.
As I was walking out, I heard Satchel further trying to convince Miles to come. “It’s really cool. They have outer space stuff on the walls…”
I left a note for Miles’ parents in his locker yesterday, but haven’t heard back. I invited the whole family, thinking they might like it as much as Warren and I do, but I also offered to watch Miles if they didn’t want to skate.
They probably think I’m a big(ger) dork now. Wait til they see my speed skates!

How old are they when playdates become important? Connor is content to see his friends at school, and play with Mom and Dad at home.
Once I have this baby and buy Connor some skates, we are totally going to Skateland with you!
