The roof is on FIRE!
photo from the Commercial Appeal
Skateland has been open for 43 years, and caught on fire one day before the very first roller derby practice!
I found out last night around 11:00pm and was disraught. I have been counting the days until our first practice. I had my outfit planned and everything!
But while I laid awake in bed, I was mourning the fact that I wouldn't be taking the kids there this Sunday. We've been the last six Sundays and it is a part of our weekend ritual now. Just this past Sunday, Satchel let go of our hands for the first time and skated with confidence while his best friend from school gave him the thumbs up from the concession stand. Jiro kept his skates on the whole time and is cruising around on the carpet like he owns the place. I was dreaming of the derby and Warren was dreaming of raising Olympic speed skaters.
I really really really hope that David (the owner) rebuilds.

oh, that's so sad! What a wild picture they captured.
Thank you, thank you for the zine 'catch up'! I'm devouring them all, and so appreciate the gesture!!
Oh no! Can you go to East End (or whatever the place on Mt. Moriah is called)? You must skate!
Oh, no!
