When I am in charge of bedtime, it involves a book or two (or three), lots of snuggling, and I'll admit it, some pleading. Normally Satchel falls asleep pretty quickly and I leave Jiro half awake to get himself to sleep. Sometimes he goes right to sleep, sometimes he calls for me and asks for water or a hug, or just tells me that he loves me.
Tonight, I came home from practice as Warren was finishing up his bedtime ritual. As I came up the walkway, he opened the door for me and signaled for me to be quiet. As I walked in I could hear the monkeys in their bedroom. My first thought was that I was going to have to climb in with them for a minute.
But, they didn't hear me come in. Jiro called from the bedroom, "I need to get some more water," followed by Satchel saying, "We're coming into the kitchen, Ok?"
I ducked behind the livingroom door and listened as the boys ran into the kicthen and helped each other get water. Then they said, "goodnight!" and ran back into their room. A minute later, maybe two, I peeked in and they were both sound asleep.
All the while, Warren was watering the plants.
It kind of makes me mad, in a "Hey! I could be watching American Idol a whole hour earlier!" kind of way, but more than that it makes me relish the fact that they still want to drift off to sleep in my arms.
