When Satchel was Jiro's age (4), he came up with some seriously funny outfits. He was all about the bright colors, capes, sparkly shoes, etc. Now, he's pretty much resigned himself to a uniform of jeans with "warm insides," a long sleeved shirt with a short sleeved shirt over it, and a hoodie. Some of these items are striped or have bright colors, but it is difficult to remember what he is wearing from day to day since it all combines into pretty much the same outfit.
For the longest time, Jiro really didn't care what he wore. I'm not sure he even paid attention as long as I was there to pull his shirt over his head or hold his pants out for him to step into. Lately, he's been charged with getting himself dressed, and it has provided both Warren and I with great pleasure.
Jiro, like Satchel, likes to layer, but his layers are totally off the wall. Usually he tries to see how many short sleeved shirts he can put on top of each other without restricting his movement. (About three.) He also likes to strategically layer his shirts so that he will end up in a forbidden Star Wars tee or Ben 10 tee by the end of the school day. His favorite look is to wear a longer, bigger shirt under a smaller, shorter shirt so that he almost looks like he's wearing a skirt. Today, he wore a white Power Ranger "wife beater" undershirt over his green Rock-n-Romp t-shirt. (Sadly, he refused to let me photograph him.)
Jiro changes clothes at least three times before settling on his final ensemble. If you try to tell him that he looks cool when he doesn't believe it to be true, he merely says (in a disgusted tone), "That's not even awesome!" which I just love.
Lately he's been experimenting with mismatched socks and wearing gloves indoors.
