The Thanksgiving feast took place at my mom's house. Warren spent most of Wednesday night cooking his sides so that he could get a jump on the turkey Thursday. What is it they say about best laid plans? The kids spent the night with my mom on Wednesday, so Warren and I ventured to the Hi-Tone for the Vending Machine/Harlan T. Bobo show. After staying out way past our bedtime, we didn't exactly get an early start Thursday.
We discovered that putting a 20lbs turkey in the oven at 2:30pm makes everyone a little cranky by 5pm. Thankfully there were a lot of snacks and most of managed to find something to occupy ourselves. (I chose napping).
The food itself was worth the wait. In addition to turkey, Warren made gravy, oyster stuffing, mashed potatoes, mashed squash, cranberry sauce, and jello cream cheese cake. My sisters added a number of casseroles (green bean & broccoli), rice, brussel sprouts, candied sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and everyone's favorite--canned cranberry sauce.
Jiro refused to eat anything but pop tarts, yogurt, coke, gatorade, and lollipops. Satchel ate a good portion of turkey & mashed potatoes then asked if he could have a bowl of gravy to eat like soup. (Inspired in part by his toothlessness, I'm sure.)
