Last week, the monkeys went to Junior Forest Ranger camp in Shelby Forest.
It was only a three and a half day camp, but they packed a lot in to those three days. The monkeys learned about reptiles, ecology, fishing, canoeing, swimming, and so on. Despite an unnatural tendency to stay involved in Mine Craft whenever possible, they loved being in the forest all day.
Their home base was the Nature Center near Poplar Trees Lake.
Not surprising, one of their favorite things about camp was going to the General Store for a drink when it was over. Warren handled 90% of the commuting, which is 30 minutes each way.
Did I mention that the camp cost $20? Crazy, right? It's funded by the State. The $20 is for the t-shirts and badges they give out on the last day. All of the parents were invited for lunch and they did a nice little ceremony.
Cutest Junior Rangers ever!
They can't wait to go back next year! However, I think we'll be spending more time in the forest now that they are more familiar with it. (I've been going quite a bit with my running group.)
We did a few holes of frisbee golf after the ceremony, and it was super fun.
Each hole has a little map showing you what to do.
I love this action photo.
And this one.
The "holes" are baskets and I think frisbee golf is probably a lot easier than regular golf.
We need to get a full set of frisbees and make a day of it. I didn't let them buy any last week, but I have a feeling it is just a matter of time.
