The First Ever Rock-n Romp in Memphis!

We had gorgeous weather, a huge crowd, good beer, awesome music, face paint, and tattoos. It was amazing. I'm still kind of in shock that we pulled it off without a hitch. (The police did show up, but for just a tiny second and they were super cool. Noise Choir got a little, well noisy, and we were in Central Gardens so, you know, do the math.)

I want to give Debbie Lee huge props for coming up with this concept and for letting us copy her!! Also I want to thank Robby Grant, Dan Harper, Mike & Kelli Smith, Chip Chockley, Wendy Trenthem, and Shiloh Barnat for helping me pull this off. There's no way I could have done it alone.

For those of you who came, tell me what you thought!

For those of you who didn't, here's what you missed:

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.
Shiloh, who is an absolute genius, brought face paint, tattoos, and bubbles for the kids. Every time I saw Dan's son, Gus, he had more face paint on. And every kid there had at least one tattoo.

Amy Lavere, actually Amy & the Tramps, played first. She started off by calling all the kids up to the front and asking them to moo so she could sing her song about a cow. She was really awesome and got the event off to a great start.

Noise Choir, who plays "instrumental surf music," came on last. They put out a mic for the kids to come up and play with them. I really enjoyed watching the faces that JB, the lead guitarist, made. (When the show was over JB came up to me and said, "I remember you from when I was 15 and used to shop at Squash Blossom.")

I can hardly wait for the next RnR on June 17th!

You're brilliant! I wish you were MY mom!

Oh, wait.

The faces on that guitar player were infinitely interesting! RnR was a blast, and I can't wait for the next one.

We had a great time! I will send you some pictures soon. We loved Amy & The Tramps. Noise Choir was a bit, um, noisy for us, but they were definitely in the spirit of the event. I think the unseasonable heat gave us a sneak preview of what the June R&R will be like, and it really wasn't too bad. More popsicles next time! (Who found the Otter Pops and where? Those are my favorite!) Stephanie, I still owe you that Maya Wrap lesson. Andria at Mothersville can show you anytime, though.

I keep forgetting to say a huge THANKS for putting the Memphis RNR together. Great job to you and everyone involved! Can't wait for the next one. (And could you have taken any more pics of the Noise Choir boy? What a groupie!)
