A couple of Saturdays ago, we made our yearly trek downtown to play in the fountains outside of City Hall. I have to say that we've been completely spoiled by the Germantown Civic Center's country club atmosphere and fancy multidimensional "Water Playground."
Whenever we go to Peabody Park, all I can see is the slippery black mold that covers the sprayground. When we were downtown, all I could see was the sharp edges of glass tiles and empty beer cans. But, the boys just saw water shooting out of the earth, so we had a pretty good time regardless.
Since the boys are a little older now, they soon tired of the fountains and explored the surrounding areas. (Gotta love wet slippery shoes on steep starcases!)
"Look! This must be where the homeless guys take a bath! Let's get in!"
Downtown on Sunday afternoons is a lot different than downtown during the week. Even though it has some unsavory bits, it is still pretty cool. Where else can you play in the water, ride the trolley, and see movie stars walking down the street? (We saw Rachel Weisz filming a scene for My Blueberry Hill outside the Arcade. Last year we saw Joaquin Phoenix doing a photo shoot for Walk the Line.)
I told Warren it might be fun to get a hotel room downtown one weekend and just pretend we are tourists. Swim in the hotel pool, walk along the bluff, go to the Farmer's Market, eat breakfast at Elliot's, visit the ducks, check out the Fire Museum, skate over the bridge to Mud Island, picnic on Harbor Town, get a sweet tea at Ms. Cordelia's...hey maybe we should do that this weekend!

...grab a cigar at the Tobacco Bowl...browse for books at Downtown Books...have a coffee at Memphis Coffee Exchange...
Wait a ... does this mean Jude Law could be wandering around downtown at this very moment? I think I'll be closing early ...
Doode, have you smelled a homeless guy lately? There is no bathing going on there.
