Get Active

There are two new groups forming for all of all you fiesty mamas (and papas):

In 1957, a group called Citizens to Preserve Overton Park (CPOP) was
founded by a small group of women in response to a government proposal to extend I-40 through Overton Park and the heart of Midtown Memphis. When the highway plan was finally laid to rest three decades later, CPOP disbanded.

On March 5, 2008, Citizens to Preserve Overton Park was reincorporated
as a Tennessee not-for-profit by yours truly, Amy Stewart-Banbury, and Naomi Van Tol. All three of us are Midtown residents and mothers of young children.

The mission of CPOP is to preserve and defend the Old Forest of Overton Park for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Stay tuned in to our activities/news by adding the CPOP Blog to your daily reading list!

A group of like-minded mamas are stirring up a local chapter of Mothers Acting Up and organizing a Reclaiming Mothers Day Parade to march from the new location of Mothersville over to Peabody Park. They're planning stilt walking, puppets, drumming, costumes and hoping for representation from lots of the positive organizations working in our community for the well-being of children.

Sign up for the email list (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/memphismau/), join MAU for their next meeting (Sunday, 3/16, 2pm, Otherlands), pass the word, and/or add Memphis Mothers Acting Up to your blogroll.
