Mr. Oster Says Goodbye to Kindergarten

Today was Warren's, excuse me, Mr. Oster's last day of student teaching in Ms. Hamlet's kindergarten class at Grahamwood. I think he was a little sad even though it was probably the hardest 8 weeks of his life! Ms. Hamlet has been teaching kindergarten at Grahamwood for almost 40 years! What a great mentor for him. (I got to meet her and she's just lovely.)

He worked really hard, like he always does, and put in ten hour days almost every day.

We went to Bookstar last night to buy some books for the classroom, but Warren received a few gifts of his own from the students and teachers today. (They also had a pizza party.)

This was my favorite--a survival kit!

How cute is this?

Look at these cute crocheted apples with reminders.

The students in his class made him a little book. Below are some sample pages.

And he got a "start your classroom off" kit with folders, a stapler, clips, stickers, you name it.

Next week he'll tackle 5th grade at a new school. I'm sure he'll do great. Love that Mr. Oster!

Hi! Love reading your blog and just wanted to come out of hiding to say "wow" that Ms. Hamlet is still teaching - I had her for kindergarten and now I'm a teacher! He had a GREAT mentor!

What an awesome post and an encouragement to all public school teachers in Memphis. That list with the wiggle eyes, button, cotton and eraser made me cry.
Teaching for MCS is so emotionally exhausting but that list gave me strength and a reminder of why I teach for MCS...THE KIDS and my FELLOW TEACHERS!!!

...and yes, 5th grade rules! They were the babies at my school, Cordova Middle but we lost our 5th grade this year and are now only 6th,7th & 8th.

5th grade= sweet
6th grade= sweet and sassy
7th grade= sassy, attitudinal and strong willed
8th grade= brain damaged and hormonally insane children that sometimes seem like small adults

I truly believe a teacher with almost 40 years of experience as a Mentor was a blessing from God. I Could only imagine the knowledge and strategies she shared with You. Congratulations and have a wonderful school year.
