The Bearded

While in Knoxville, we got to visit with our friends Marty and Carl, who we met in the Peace Corps fifteen years ago. It's been about eight years since we've seen them, but the cool thing about some friends is that it doesn't matter if its been eight years or eight minutes--there's still lots to talk about.

Marty and Carl both bought old houses in Knoxville's downtown and it was a pleasure getting to see all the things they've done to spruce them up. Marty's yard is a true wonder. I have no idea why I didn't take pictures! Marty also gave us a tour of Market Square and took us to some really awesome places to eat. Not only that, he regaled us of tales from his band, called The Bearded, who play regular shows at Blackberry Farm.

Here we all are after brunch at the Crown & Goose. Can you find Jiro in the picture?

One of the best surprises of the weekend was getting to meet Marty's girlfriend, Rita, who is a chef, caterer, and restaurateur. It was really fun for me to get to chat with a foodie about all of the cool things going on in and around Knoxville. Anyone wanna go back with me for the Bacon Fest?

As you can see, Satchel was also very much enjoying the picture taking.

We managed to pack a lot into a quick visit, and I'm hoping we can get back for a longer visit soon. I also look forward to hosting Carl, Marty & Rita sometime soon!
