We were so focused on the Nerf War that Halloween kind of snuck up on us. In July, I had grand plans of us dressing up like Princess Bubble Gum, the Ice King, Jake, and Finn from Adventure Time, but never quite got it out of the planning phase.
Sunday, after the war, we were too tired to focus on any details, so we opted to go to bed early so we could get up early and make some decisions. The kids can dress up for school as long as it isn't scary. Jiro didn't want to dress up at all and satchel wanted to dress scary, so it was a bit of a struggle. I turned costumes over to Warren and focused on making "bandaged wound" cupcakes for their spooky foods lunch. (They are wonton wrappers layered with spaghetti sauce, cheese, and pepperoni.)
Warren did a great job of coaxing them into easy outfits. Meet the teenagers!
When school was over, we let them get a bit scarier looking for trick-or-treating. Unfortunately, they each made at least three kids cry.
Warren revisited his "cholo" look this year.
Here is the full effect.
Please note that they are all dressed and ready to go prior to sunset! A first!
We made our usual rounds in Evergreen, then went to Cooper-Young for an informal gathering/ gumbo party at a friend's house. Although the gumbo was awesome, the highlight was watching the kids spread out their candy and do trade negotiations.
Once home, Satchel immediately hid his candy from me and Warren. Jiro, however, has agreed to share with us since he doesn't think it's fair that parents don't get candy too.

That Jiro's a keeper! This was my sons first time trick or treating at 2 & 1/2 and I am really enjoying the parental right to "inspect" his candy. Mwahahahaaa! Oh, and those teenager costumes were far more terrifying than the t or t ones, in my opinion. :-)
