Halloweenie

I am a Halloweenie. I don't really like dressing up, but I do take pleasure in the dressing up of my three dudes.

We started Halloween a few days early at Zoo Boo. For whatever reason, the monkeys wanted to go this year and I got offered free tickets, so it was a win-win. At the last minute, Satchel decided he did not want to go, so Jiro's buddies, Santi & Enrique, happily filled in for him.

We'd had a long day of soccer and hadn't put much thought into costumes, but a Sorcerer, a Dragon Slayer, and a Ninja emerged from Jiro's closet just in time.

The highlight of Zoo Boo, in my opinion, is getting to run around in the dark. There weren't a lot of animals out and there really isn't that much candy either, so the kids just had fun running around. Oh, and I let them have pretzels and slushies for dinner. That was fun too. I later learned that the rides were all free, but don't tell the kids!

After Zoo Boo, Warren and I went to a party at a friend's house. I dressed in a hipster burka, but no one took a picture, because it wasn't really a real costume. Warren went as Crazy 88 from Kill Bill. And yes, we were at the kind of party where just about everyone knew who he was right away.

For actual trick or treating, Jiro upgraded his sorcerer costume with some make up and a scary staff and called himself the Reaper.

Satchel, who has been a scarecrow for the past several years, upgraded a bit with a new scarecrow mask. Warren used the scarecrow in Batman as inspiration.

Together, they were quite scary.

As is tradition in our house, I kept the kids calm while Warren finished his make up.

And as always, he emerged even more frightening than the year before.

I bought that wig before we were married as a joke. My friend, Marlinee, and I wore them to a bar and then invited our fiances to meet us just to see if they recognized us. They did. Little did I know the mileage the wig would get in Warren's various Halloween costumes!

We went to a party in Cooper Young and Satch went trick or treating with his friend, Theo. Despite our speeches about not ditching Jiro, that's exactly what he did. Although Jiro seemed happy to be escorted by me and Warren, so it was fine.

After trick or treating and hanging with friends at the party, we inexplicably went to YoLo. I guess we hadn't cracked into the candy yet so it seemed like a good idea.

At home, I got everyone cleaned up and then the monkeys let me sort their candy.

They basically went to the same houses, but somehow ended up with pretty different results. Satchel ate a few pieces, but Jiro wasn't interested at all. I think he may have been eating at the party. I probably ate more than anyone and boy did I regret it this morning.
