My boss, as a thank you to the staff, managed to get us a table at the Freedom Awards tonight honoring Oprah Winfrey and Paul Rusesabagina (of Hotel Rwanda fame). Until just a minute ago I thought it was going to be all Oprah, which was exciting enough, but this is really something.
The event is black tie, which is not my thing. Luckily a few weeks ago I remembered the Eileen Fisher pants suit I had buried in the back of my closet. I bought it four years ago, and amazingly it still fits.
Then I had a shoe dilemma. I only own one pair of heels that I ordered off of the Internet. The one night I wore them, Warren had to hold my hand so I didn't fall. I actually went out and purchased some sexy black heels, but my coworkers (the fashion police) said that although they were lovely, I needed something more sparkly.
"Do you have jewelry? A purse?" they added.
Uh-oh.
In a panic, I called my mom. She arrived last night with some sparkly shoes, some sparkly purses, and lots of sparkly jewelry. I tried everything on, much to Satchel's delight ("Mom, I really like those shoes!"), and I think I am ready to go.
I have a 5:30 presentation at the Junior League and then I have to hightail it downtown for the dinner. I hope I don't sweat too much, break a heel, or bust a seam.
I'm definitely going to need a cocktail.

I am so jealous! Tiff and I were supposed to go to the Freedom Awards forum today, but our tickets fell through.
I love to dress up! Call me and Tiff next time you need fancy clothes- we've got you covered.
Come on- tell us how it was!
I am so jealous! Did you get a pic of you all dressed up? I wish I could have gone.
